About - Tom Crump Photography

I first became interested in photography when my twin sons were born in the early 60's. I was in the service at the time and there was no such thing as cash flow. My first camera was a Ricoh rangefinder that I purchased at a pawn shop. I worked my way up from that first camera to a Minolta sir,a Nikkormat,Nikon FTN,Nikon F2,F4 and F5 learning all the while. A few years ago I jumped into the realm of digital capture and started the learning curve all over.

I am totally enthralled with the digital experience. I capture five times more images than with negative film and in so doing my composition and eye for what I see have improved. I have learned more these past few years than in the preceding decade.

The digital darkroom,Photoshop, Lightroom, Layers, Etal are making the final product more fulfilling than my experienced with negative film. There is a lot of satisfaction in seeing the end  results of a shoot which provides the motivation to keep shooting and keep learning.

My interest in landscape and nature photography evolves out of a lifetime interest in the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, hiking and . snowshoeing. Since I was very young I've had the pleasure of experiencing a great deal of the pristine north American landscape and portions of the European alps. The past several years I have lived intermittently in northern New Mexico. With its long tradition of photography and the special quality of light. New Mexico has inspired numerous forays with the camera and personal new discoveries in subject matter.
